Entering into a church building project is a major undertaking. The following are points to consider when this is brought before your church fellowship:
- A building project shouldn't be taken on when ministry to those who are at risk would be neglected. These people may include: singles, handicapped, those facing pro-longed sickness
- A strategy needs to be in place offering accountability, a place of service and a place of growth to its members to be positioned for growth. When your fellowship is mobilized from within to reach out in Jesus' love to the community a season of growth follows.
- Adding a second service for a season will allow time to fund raise towards a new building or gather funds for a renovation project. A building serves as a tool for the gospel. However it can't completely consecrated to the Lord until fully paid for. An honest evaluation of the church finances needs to be established before proceeding.
- Has serious dialogue taken place among the church board of directors considering adding a second service? Entering into a building project takes time to plan and discern the needs of the congregation and the vision the fellowship is taking on behalf of Jesus.
- Have the church fellowship pray humbly before Lord for a clear vision. The motivation to build needs to come from the Lord, not the desires of man. A building project will utterly fail if not birthed by the Lord, including placing undo stress on the fellowship and eventually lead to division and disunity.
- Is the programming offered by your fellowship effective? Would entering into a building project compromise the ministry of the church?
